Trying to Remain Positive

Post by MaineBucs »

To date this year, the Pirates have called up the following players/prospects from the minors. I have identified the FanGraph ratings for the players in the Pirate system because their site goes 61 deep vs only 30 on most lists.

Pitchers

Yajure - # 14

Contreras - # 3

DeLosSantos - #26

Kranick - # 44

Sulser - unrated (since DFA'd)

Position Players

Castillo - #17

Castro - #35

Marcano - #23

Park - Not on listed, likely because of number of ML games

Mitchell - #37

Suwinski - #30

I note that only Contreras is in the Top 10, and only two others, Yajure and Castillo, are in the Top 20.

Clearly, most of the players who have been promoted to the majors for at least part of this season have struggled, however, perhaps we should take some solace that we have yet to see most of the cream from the system.

Some of it stands to reason.

The same minds who some of us have questioned regarding their "deployment" decisions have at least some input on personnel decisions.

To think that they're poor in one key element of their roles, but superior in another? I suppose that anything's possible....I wouldn't bank on it, though.

How much has to do with the organization/how much has to do with the player himself.....no idea.

out of this list most were acquired in trades by BC. Castro, Kranick, Susler, Mitchell and De Los Santos were only ones with Pirates as their first and only MLB organization. It is going to be interesting to see how many of his acquisitions become successful major league players.

Time to start looking to package some position players for a young starter. We need them badly. Marcano,T Swag ,Can Nigba etc could get us something.

yeah, has there been any news on Priester? I don't think he has pitched yet this year? The Bucs need him and a couple others to come through big time.
