MLBPA Spring Training
It looks like there will be a spring training for the unsigned players. This is kind of funny to me. I know greed is on both sides (owner, players) but some of these guys have had offers and turned them down.
I don't even know how this works. Who is in charge? Who sets up the drills? Can't these players just workout on their own? Many players workout together in the off season.

sounds like a marketing ploy and PR gimmick

It would be funny if Nutting showed up with a stopwatch and asked Arrietta and Martinez to run a couple 60 yard dashes.

It actually makes sense to me. The FAs want to be as ready as possible to start the season when signed. This should be a better work out for them than Cutch had batting against a HS coach.

How do they define an unsigned "player"? I would think it would have to be a pretty narrow scope in order to not have hundreds (if not thousands) of participants. Even if they restricted it to players with MLB service time surely there are hundreds of washouts who would jump all over the opportunity.

I wondered that too. It would be great if people like us showed up. Technically, I am a free agent. Hell, I will even sign for the minimum. Then Disney will make a movie about me!

According to Ken Rosenthal, the camp will be run by former Astros's manager Bo Porter. Personal trainers are not allowed. Housing and travel is being provided by the union. They also get a daily per diem.
I did not get an invite.
