A few starts ago he flirted with the same disastrous 1st inning but was bailed out when the Red Sox attempted their 3rd and 4th SBs of the 1st inning and a pick off resulted in a DP. He ended up with an impressive 6.2 IP but was on the verge of being lifted in the 1st. Today he wasn't so lucky. Obviously, Glasnow still has significant issues. He's flashed his potential more with TB than he ever did as a Pirate but the problems are still there.

Tyler has given up 18 earned runs in last 32 innings.
Still hoping he can put things together. He needs to forget this start.

Reese McGuire is making his major league debut tonight for the Jays. He hit .233 in AAA this season.

Just read that J A Happ is 6-0 since joining the Yanks. Prior to coming to Pittsburgh in July 2015 he was a mediocre pitcher, but since then he has been unbelievable.

Billy O'Dell died on Wednesday (9/12/18). The LHP was primarily a starter as an Oriole and Giant but finished his career as a reliever with the Pirates in 1966-67 at age 33-34. In his final MLB season he made 11 starts for the Bucs filling in for the injured Vern Law while also making 16 BP appearances. Overall, it was a poor season for O'Dell and his last in MLB. But I recall listening on KDKA radio in his first game that season when he relieved Dennis Ribant in the 4th inning vs the Phillies and pitched 5.1 innings of 1-hit shutout relief in a 7-3 win. Future Pirates Jim Bunning and Grant Jackson pitched for Philly.

"Digger" O'Dell. He and Woodie Fryman kind of merge in the earliest parts of my baseball memory, so that I think Fryman was already old when he was sent to the Phils in the Bunning deal.

If I recall when Fryman came up to Pittsburgh he was an older rookie. He had a few good seasons after he left the Pirates in the Bunning trade.

Fryman was a rookie in 1966 (age 26) and pitched for the Bucs the same 2 years as O'Dell (66-67). So he was 28 when traded to the Phillies in 1968. He pitched 18 years until age 43 in 1983.

Last night in Texas it was Glasnow for the Rays vs. Adrian Sampson for the Rangers. 2 ex-Bucs!
Glasnow with 6 SO innings for his 1st TB win.
If you ignore Glasnow's 1 meltdown of 7 ER in 0.2 of an inning, in his other 8 starts for the Rays he has pitched 43.2 innings with a 2.68 ERA, 24 Hits, 12 BB's, 47 K's
