ON the post game show, Cruz is the 11th guy to have a double and a HR against DeGrom in the same game. So there is something cool. He also has tied Jay Bell for most HR's by a Pirates SS since 1974. IDK what is significant with 1974. He's also only 3 RBI behind Reynolds for team lead in just half a season.

Today was the first time Shelton used Mitchell as his cleanup hitter. It must be because Mitchell entered the game in a 1 for 13 (.071) slump.

The good news is that the Bucs have played .500 ball over the last eight games. ::)

I am sorry, but the hitting coach has to go. 20 strikeouts? Someone has to be accountable for the lack of improvement on this team. Since Shelton was given a vote of confidence by Cherington a month ago, then position coaches need to take the heat. Bye Haines.

Suwinski should go back down to Indy so Haines can't screw him up any worse than he has.

I don't, either. It seems the 1974 shortstops - Taveras, Mendoza, Maxville, Popovich, and Howe - combined for zero homers on the season.

Bell hit 16 HRs in 1991. IIRC, that was the most for a Pirate SS since Arky Vaughan hit 19 in 1935. Looks like 1974 was mentioned by mistake.
