The Marlins are playing better then the Pirates these 3 games it's really that simple. They are getting big hits and big outs when they need too and the Pirates simply aren't especially late in these games.

Not a stretch to say this is one of the most important innings of the season coming up here for the Pirates in the bottom half of this 9th inning. Gotta get something done here. A sweep this weekend would be an absolute killer.

This is why baseball will drive you crazy. The Bucs have a disasterous 1-5 trip to Milwaukee and Atlanta; they go to LA & SF and dominate going 5-1. Then they come home hot; Marlins come in cold having lost 3 out of 4 to the Reds; and the Bucs lob the proverbial turd in the punchbowl. Sooooo frustrating!!

About as bad of a weekend as you could have had. The Pirates lost 3 games in the standings to the Marlins and 2 games in the standings to the Cardinals. Everything good they did this past week out West pretty much got pissed away with what happened here this weekend.

I do know that the Pirates wasted two really solid pitching performances last night and today by producing almost nothing offensively ... and today they produced almost nothing against a garbage pitcher.
But then again I guess that's become a Pirates trademark ... getting shut down by a pitcher whose ERA is north of 6.50.
Kuhl and Vogelsong deserved better.
SO. FRUSTRATING.

Another 2 games where offense disappeared.

As I've said before, they don't look like a team in a pennant chase. Other than Harrison there is little energy. Probably because so few get on base to make anything happen. Defense is shabby far too often. They have been around .500 most of the season, so essentially for every game they win, they also lose one. The fact that the teams ahead of them haven't pulled away hasn't energized the Pirates. They can't help it if the WC race came down to their level but they don't do anything to take advantage of that. They don't even hit bad pitchers. When they get eliminated from the WC race it won't be because they put on a mad rush and just fell short. It will be because they keep losing one for every one they win, playing poor defense and hitting poorly.
