I know it is not specifically Pirate news, but MLB Trade Rumors has reported that the Angels have fired Joe Maddon as manager.
I watched some of last night's Red Sox/Angels game. The Angels feature Mike Trout and Ohtani in the starting line-up, and last night had Noah Snydergard on the mound. Regardless, they did not score in a 1-0 game last night and have now lost 12 in a row.
Not trying to wish ill-will on anyone, but Maddon always bothered me when he was managing the Cubs against the Pirates. I am not a fan of Shelton, but I would rather see Shelton ineptly managing the Pirates than having to stomach Maddon at the team's manager.

I still hold a grudge against him for the Kang injury. Maybe he is no longer a genius.

After Girardi, a lot of people saw this one coming.
I have no love for Maddon. He was another LaRussa, thought he invented baseball. Too much about his own celebrity IMHO. And as mentioned above, his comments after Kang's injury has ingrained permanent hatred for him on my part.
I found it particularly pleasing how quickly the love affair wore off in Chicago with him. I think the fan base there felt cheated, only getting one with that group of players, and I think Maddon was deservedly assigned a good bit of the blame for it.

From the MLB Trade Rumors site:
Shortly after the news broke, Maddon spoke with Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic. He expressed “a lot” of surprise with the decision, conceding that the team’s recent play had been disappointing but opining there “wasn’t an issue of camaraderie or lack of leadership.” Asked point blank whether he wanted to continue managing, the 68-year-old replied “Of course I want to manage. I’m really good at it.”
Yep --- While I acknowledge the need for folks to have an ego, time for the Angels to move on.

“I’m really good at it,” said the man upon being fired for being unsatisfactory at it.

I don’t like seeing someone lose his/her job but I’m not shedding any tears learning this. He’s an arrogant jerk and the Angels are better off without him. I hope they win 20 games in a row on the way to winning the division.

I hold the same grudge, EcBuc! And that's why I won't shed a tear at his firing.

Being from around Mike Trout's home town I sort of pull for him. Got excited when the Angels started hot. Had hopes to see that stupid "rally monkey" they used years ago to win WS.
