Cruz flailing at that pitch in the dirt has become a common scene.

If one of the new strategies for the Bucs is to bunt a lot, be it for a hit or to move a runner up, it is past time for the manager/hitting coach to conduct an in-season bunting training session for all players. Too often the Pirate batter fails to execute a bunt.

I wonder if Cruz still thinks he belongs in the big leagues or if it’d be okay with him to return to Indy and tighten up his at bats a bit?

Cruz needs to start recognizing what’s a strike and what isn’t. He swings at far too many pitches that are well out of the strike zone.

Castillo is not slow but this is the 2nd time in a week Shelton has used the guy who will be Castillo's defensive replacement to PR for him. But with a small bench, it would be better to wait and make sure no one gets hurt during the inning that would require a defensive replacement before already committing someone to replace Castillo. Not to mention that the inning could take an unexpected turn and the guy needlessly used as a pinch runner might have been a good pinch hitting option. Shelton never ceases to amaze with his lack of vision.

He can’t see his own lack of vision.
