How good is Adam Frazier?

Fangraphs Carson Cistulli a while back suggested that Adam might be a future batting champion. He hit 276/344/ 743 in his first full year with 1.1 WAR. He plays plus defense in left. All he has done in pro ball is hit. If he can hit 300/368/ 790 with good defense, he is a keeper. Think Freddie Sanchez, Daniel Murphy as possible comparable players.

I'm not sure he will be able to hit lefties well enough to be a regular. He had only one XBH last year in 63 PA's. He had a .370 BABIP against LHP, so absent that, he might have been unplayable.

I don't think his bat is strong enough to play at a corner OF slot, but I think he is a solid utility/platoon infielder and is probably the reason that they will move Harrison for peanuts soon.

If he can reach that 300/368/790 he is certainly a plus for the lineup. If he is 280/350/760 he is not good enough to be a leftfielder. Here's hoping for the 300 line.

I like Frazier a lot. He didn't hurt them in LF (the metrics I saw were on the + side). He's their best lead off hitter. And I can't complain about a .304 BA and .355 OBP vs LHP even if only 1 hit was an XBH. Not likely to sustain a .370 BABIP but he's a line drive hitter so his hits aren't cheap. He lacks the power we like from a corner OFer but so did Marte. Of course if that's 2/3rds of the OF, there has to be power elsewhere. Polanco needs to step it up or be replaced. Bell has power and Moran is billed as a rising HR hitter. If Frazier can play a solid LF, hit for a good average and be a good top of the order setup guy, he will be very valuable.

Perhaps in this new age of elevated launch angles, high OBP line drive hitters are an undervalued commodity.
