Bucs acquire Kela...

It’s almost 3 AM I know and I’m working overnight as I do sometimes and just thought I would break this news of the Pirates trading for Keone Kela. It looks like Taylor Hearn is in the deal and another player as well possibly one of the 3 shortstops the Bucs have. Nonetheless good move for the Bucs in what definitely will help a bullpen that could use help late in games. Hopefully another starting pitcher will be acquired today as well. I’m sure there will be more to come on this deal later just thought I would throw it out here right now being the middle of the night.

The Pirates do seem to be trying to get to a lock-down end game set. Starters apparently will be called on for five or six.

I know you have to give up quality to get quality and Kela is a solid addition; but I really liked the potential of Taylor Hearn and was looking forward to seeing a powerful LH pitcher in our rotation. I can’t see giving up our best LH starting pitcher prospect for a reliever. Plus the deal involves another prospect most likely one of our middle fielders.

That was my reaction as well. Left-handed pitchers with any power are hard to find. Pretty steep price to pay. The sense I get is that NH is devaluing the starting pitcher role and looking to an overloaded back end to win games.

Hearn is best LH pitcher in organization, if you're giving him up and another piece why couldn't you bring Diekman along in this deal?

I'm not happy and I'm holding my breath that the other player isn't Newman or Tucker.

Don't be surprised if we sell Vasquez this off-season or sooner.

I mean yes Hearn has potential to be very solid with his arm and being a lefty but that’s all it is at this point is potential. Look at Tyler Glasnow how everybody thought he was gonna be this dominate starting pitcher based on what he did in AAA now the guy is barely pitching out of the bullpen for us. So you just never know. Hearn has a lot of potential but I’m more of a guy who wants to see production over potential and we can go back and use Glasnow as an example for this.

I think I like it. We'll see who the ptbnl is. I think of all the players talked about he's the one that would affect out playoff chances the most.

Been thinking Kela is a good pick up now is time to go get Archer, DeGrom or a top controllable starter. I'd make Meadows the centerpiece of the trade since we have Luplow, Brian Reynolds and Jason Martin either in majors or close. We also have Dickerson for at least one more year as a bridge.

Get it done NH!

Shut down bull pen - the smartest way for the Pirates to truly alter the game in our favor.  We now have 8th and 9th locked down. Consider the potential we have to fill a 7 inning specialist, we just need to find someone to take on Jared Hughes role and it will start to look like 2015 all over again.

We all witnessed the impact of “game over” if the Pirates had a lead after 6. Frankly, even if the game was tied after 6.
