Stanton cleared waivers. Rumors that the Marlins need to trade him. How much are the Marlins going to eat is the question? I can't see many teams in the Stanton Sweepstakes.

Remember Connelly said this would happen? He said how the Marlins never planned on keeping Stanton the entire time with that contract.

Stanton can opt out of his contract in 2020. He is under contract for $25 million in '18, $26 million in '19, and $26 million in '20.

I actually say go for it. Trade Marte, Glasnow/Keller, Brault/Kingham and another prospect for him. You go with a lineup that features Cutch, Stanton and Bell in it, that isn't too bad.

It's a perfect match for the Pirates, because Stanton is one of a very few guys who qualify as two outfielders.

I would imagine this would be a huge three-five team deal in the off season.

It would be a great way for the new owners to get a ton of prospects in return.

Is there a way to force a player to take their buy out? I can see a team trading for him knowing he will opt out of his contract after three years. $77 million for three years could interest many teams. Plus, Bryce Harper will set the free agent price after 2019.

I think he might be more valuable than any team can afford to pay. So much value they can't get a return.

I would think the Marlins would want more than an OF that was suspended 80 games and isn't the same player; and a list of questionable prospects (I actually like Keller).  This organization doesn't have the stones to pull off such a deal.  That involves trading prospects that are highly thought of by many and adding a huge contract.  That isn't the Pirate way.

You talk like the only reason we won't get Stanton is because the Pirates don't feel like doing it.
