He should have had a triple on his grounder down 3B line that scored Reynolds. Not running at full speed.
I guess it’s no wonder Cruz doesn’t hustle then. Why should he when one of the franchise’s best players in history doesn’t?

It’s important to think of the rigors of a long season, JR. These 20-somethings will need their strength when faced with trying to stave off the worst record in baseball come September. You’ll be grateful to whomever makes out the line-up card here in April that these guys are well-rested when crunch time comes.
I've always thought the idea was to rest throughout the season to keep them fresh for the playoffs. All those trips from the sofa to the fridge and back while watching the postseason can be wearisome if not properly rested. But the analytics department is all over that!
Can anyone here play this game?

You have the Pirates confused with the Dodgers and Phillies and Yankees, you know, the teams that do things the opposite way that we do them. I don’t understand why those teams aren’t learning from the Pirates. I mean, look where they end up each year, playing all of those extra games while our guys are home, all relaxed and not worn out.

Five guys in today’s starting line-up are hitting below .200 on the season.

If the Dodgers, Phillies or Yankees end up watching the postseason from their sofas, they'll wish they had followed the Pirates strategy of rest to facilitate those trips between the living room and kitchen. The Pirates are pioneering that field.

Not so fast! Hayes with a single climbs to .200 exactly. I feel much better.

Tommy Pham's average has gone up today! Can't say that very often.

We’ll, you’ve always said that Cherington was smarter than everybody else.

Why would Shelton pinch hit Cruz in the 8th with no one on base, down by three runs? Wouldn’t it have been better to see if the Pirates could get a couple of guys on in the ninth and then bring him in to hit? It’s bad enough we have a minor league roster, do we also have to have a minor league manager?
