Re: 2024 Off-Season Thread
Update on Horwitz is that he will miss 6-8 weeks.
Pirates will look within (naturally) to replace him. Opening the door for Cooke, or Hall etc.
This situation is very disturbing to me. No details on when or how he got hurt. Did he have an issue with his wrist at the time of the trade? Watch them sign Vogelbach.

this explains why Ben only gave up three players to get him.Bobster wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 1:56 pmAnd the surgery was to correct "chronic symptoms." It wasn't a new injury.JollyRoger8 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 5:24 am Post Gazette is reporting that our big acquisition Horwitz will not be ready for the start of spring training. He had a wrist injury that required surgery and he is still in a cast. Did the Pirates not do a complete physical before trading for him?
This is not acceptable!
Re: 2024 Off-Season Thread
Pirates just hired Danield Vogelbach as "an assistant to the hitting department." I didn't know they had a hitting department. You couldn't tell by watching the games. But Vogelbach's .186 BA last year must have convinced Cherington that he had a wealth of knowledge to impart about hitting.

Absolutely comical
Re: 2024 Off-Season Thread
In Dejan's column he writes that Shelton says Reynolds will play right field and Pham (along with others will be in left).

I wrote (tongue-in-cheek) last week about the Bucs possibly positioning the team to be sold. I only wish that was the outcome.Ecbucs wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 5:01 pmthis explains why Ben only gave up three players to get him.Bobster wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 1:56 pmAnd the surgery was to correct "chronic symptoms." The latest revelation about Horwitz's injury, coupled with the signing of Pham, and now bringing in Vogelbach is just too bat-shit crazy to ignore. There HAS to be something afoot that lies under Bob's slimy underbelly. Is he trying to drive attendance down? Is there some clause in the contract with the city that would allow him to pull up stakes and move the team if there is not a certain level of support?
You just cannot be this incompetent with their roster decisions and think fans and city/state officials do not notice the complete lack of effort to improve this team and not come to a conclusion that this scumbag is up to something.

Not sure about any attendance clauses, but the lease is up on the Ballpark in 2030. It is always in the back of my mind that, the City and Pirates cannot agree on a new lease so Sneaky Bob will move the team to another location, such as North Carolina or even Tennessee. I hate to say it, but I don’t trust the man.Javy wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 8:13 pmI wrote (tongue-in-cheek) last week about the Bucs possibly positioning the team to be sold. These are Cherington's moves. Nutting seems happy just to have a low payroll and make a profit. It's the gross incompetence of Cherington that is making these questionable additions to the team.fjk090852-7 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 12:11 amNot sure about any attendance clauses, but the lease is up on the Ballpark in 2030.
