Re: 2024 Off-Season Thread
If a player just quit and started mailing it in, I would object. That isn't treating the game with any respect. I feel no different when it's an owner doing that, and that is exactly what Nutting is doing. But it isn't going to change. If it weren't for this unfortunate childhood affliction of mine. carried forward to this day, of listening to Pirate games, rooting for them, feeling their losses, etc., I would be able to follow a team that does care. The Phils, the Braves, even the Reds. But there it is. The Pirates are what they are and I have to accept that. Fool me once, etc. I just have to live with what they are.

I guess the other 29 teams had no interest in him. I still wonder why he lasted this long on the Bucs roster.3pirates3 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2025 8:49 pm https://x.com/JeffPassan/status/1887963424778244474

Does this mean he can be assigned to AAA? And possibly be back as soon as someone goes on the DL?
Re: 2024 Off-Season Thread
That has happened. He's been outrighted to Indy and will be in ST as a nonroster invitee. He's like a bad weed.
There's no basement in the Alamo.
Re: 2024 Off-Season Thread
perhaps the Bucs are grooming him to be a coach or even Shelton's replacement. Or perhaps the Bucs want to have as many utility infielders at Indy as they do in Pittsburgh.

There is strong speculation that Verdugo will sign with the Astros for 15.2 million dollars. That is approximately a 6 million dollar increase than his 2024 salary. To me that seems like a little overpay for a player whose stats were down last year. I figured he would get around 8 to 10 million dollars for a one year contract.

Re: 2024 Off-Season Thread
I found the post I made about a month ago. I guess I jinxed us when I said I don’t want a 37 year old player like Tommy Pham. Someone with the Pirates must read our site, and told the FO to go get Pham. I apologize for mentioning his name, maybe our Commissioner should suspend me from posting for a couple days.fjk090852-7 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 12:33 amThis is a good take by Jim Bowden, and I know he has more knowledge than me, but I still think signing a free agent like Grichuk or even Verdugo would be huge to the Pirates lineup. Many people aren’t excited about Spencer Horowitz because he doesn’t hit many homers, but I expect many doubles in the gap from him. Some writers have said Cruz could be a 30 30 player this season. If so that is huge! I don’t want a 37 or older player like a Tommy Pham, I am still hoping one of the two players I mentioned above will sign with the Pirates, or they trade for a player like Ward. I like the lineup if one of those three players are in it.JollyRoger8 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 5:58 pm Too bad Bowden isn’t our GM
