Re: Davey Jones Locker
Wow, it still hits me that I saw guys play, and when I see how old they were when they passed away. 81 I can still see him playing for the Orioles. That's how I'll always remember him. RIP
Re: Davey Jones Locker
I saw him play many times with the Orioles. He was a good hitting 4th OFer and the Orioles wanted his bat in the lineup in the 1971 WS. So he started 6 of the 7 games, 5 of those in CF instead of Paul Blair. Many Oriole fans claimed Blair would have caught up to Pagan's 7th inning double over Rettenmund's head in CF that scored Stargell from 1B.
There's no basement in the Alamo.

If memory serves me, Rettenmund grounded out to Jackie Hernandez to end the SeriesBobster wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2024 7:52 pmI saw him play many times with the Orioles. Cleveland hero Rocky Colavito passes away at 91
Re: Davey Jones Locker
For some reason I always thought he was in the HOF. Looking at his numbers, and comparing them to Parker, who just got in....wow. Now I know why I heard so much about him when I was really coming into age with baseball, right about when he retired.
Re: Davey Jones Locker
He was such a fan favorite in Cleveland, there was nearly a revolt when he was traded to the Tigers after a salary dispute over $10,000. He hit 4 HR's in a game in 1959. A couple years later, while with Detroit, he had 3 HR's in a game against the Indians with a chance for a 4th. Hit a long shot down the LF line that went foul in his last AB, just missing becoming the only man to hit 4 in a game twice. Defensively, his arm was comparable to Clemente's.

Probably the best name and logo to come out of sports in a long time. Glad he got the NHL in the PNW.
