But since a certain degree of public support is necessary, he occasionally has to endure the charade of pretending to care about winning. So we'll get a preseason comment about building a championship team (after which I'm guessing he spits and says, "I'm glad that's over with for another year"). But building a championship team is unnecessary and costs money. So it's not even a consideration. Sometimes, appeasement of the supporters requires a change in GM and manager. But that's just for show. You don't improve on a Huntington and Hurdle by hiring a Cherington and Shelton. One's as good as another. They suffice for Nutting's purposes. It's the mere act of the change that accomplishes the goal of making it look like he cares.

And it seems like whenever he's actually asked about the baseball operation, Nutting mentions the Dominican Academy. It seems more like a money laundering scheme than a pipeline for baseball talent.

("What are you doing with all that profit, Bob?")
("Who, me? Oh...I...uh...oh...I'm a...I'm putting lots of money into that darned Baseball Academy thingy. Yeah, that's what I'm doing! That's the ticket.")
And I wish someone would tell him to button his shirt. I don't know what look he's going for but he looks ridiculous.
Maybe they should put a dunk tank on Federal Street for each home game, and for $5 you get 3 throws to try to put him in the water. That extra money can be used to help pay players salaries.

I hope he starts a movement that forces baseball to be equitable regarding payrolls.

Bob has to be licking his chops for next season. He is dumping upwards of 20 mil in salary and will be getting the same return if not a better team in having a full season of Skenes and pitchers coming up from the minors. They won't have to sign anyone to pitch and if they want to really go the cheap route, move Reynolds to 1b and have DLC in right, Cook in left. Payroll should be around $65 mil next year. You have to admire how he gives zero shits about what the fans think of him, because if he did, he would make an attempt to bring in some talent.

I am not shocked about Zaidi leaving but am surprised Posey is his replacement. I would take Zaidi over Ben C. any day of the week.

Why? He's had a top 11 or better payroll his entire time in SF, has only one winning season to his name when everything fell just right for them and they won 107 games, but didn't even make it out of the NLDS.

With the Dodgers, 2015-2018: 2015 Division winner, lost in NLDS 2016 Division winner, lost in NLCS 2017 Division Winner, lost WS 2018 Division winner, lost WS. Sounds pretty good, but had number one payroll all but 2018, when dodgers were a measley 3rd. In 2015, their payroll was 100 million more than the next NL club; in 2016 it was 60 million higher than the next NL club; In 2017 it was 70 million higher; In 2018 they were 22 million lower than the highest NL club. The other NL club in each of those scenarios was....San Francisco!!!!

Funny, with a bottom 5 payroll in Oakland, they were in last place almost every season he was part of their baseball operations.
