Here's why you have to try and keep a slimmer of hope going by using Davis:
You've already closed the gap, so you can't use a position player to pitch now. Why not roll the dice?
Feigl lead off double, then gets a comebacker to the mound, but doesn't fundamentally check the guy back to second, who goes to third on the out at first.
