Cutch re-signs

Post by Javy »

No more wondering, Cutch is resigning for 2024 for $5,000,000.
He will' hit his 300th homer in a Buc unform.

Cutch has indicated he would like to play some outfield this season. If that happens he could spell Reynolds every so often, and Reynolds could DH in order to keep his bat in the lineup.

I know this might be blasphemous, and some posters won’t agree with me, but I think Cutch should contemplate retiring at season’s end. I know he has a history of starting off the year rather slow, but it looks like he is struggling more than he has in the past. Please know I have been a fan of McCutchen, and have respected him for wanting to be a Pittsburger, but there comes a time when even the best players must hang up their cleats.

I don't think there's much doubt that this is his last year. But I've begun to think that it might be best if he go out gracefully sometime in the next few weeks if his troubles continue. He was a great player when he was here at the beginning of his career, but he's not at all close to what he was. I wouldn't be surprised if thoughts of calling it quits before the year is out haven't begun to creep into his thinking.

I agree doc. If he really cares about the City ( and I really believe he does) and
his struggles continue leading up to the All Star break, and the team is doing poorly,
he should bow out

Bringing Cutch back for 2025 is going to be a tough call in my opinion. Prior to his latest injury he was hitting rather well. Sometimes when one projects the makeup of the 2025 roster where does Cutch fit. Possibly if Davis begins to hit MLB pitching he could DH on days. I keep hearing that there is a question as to whether Cruz should continue to play shortstop. Could he be a DH next year? Cutch has been a true Pirate, and I can’t see the Organization letting him walk by free agency. Possibly they bring him back with the understanding that he will be DH part time. I think this offseason is going to be interesting as to how the Pirates establish their position player roster. I think possibly two hitters will be added, then you have IKF and DelA Cruz who they added at the deadline and I would expect to see Endy making the Opening Day Roster. Bart, Reynolds, Cruz, Gonzales should also be locks as well as Hayes if healthy. That is 10 players for 13 position player spots on the 26 man roster. Will Cutch be part of the group of 13?

When I wrote this Post about a month ago I had serious concerns about whether Cutch should return in 2025. Over the past several weeks Cutch has been one of Bucs top performers. I believe the Pirates will work out a deal to retain Cutch for next season. It may not happen until around the time of the Winter Meetings, but I think the two sides will come to an agreement for 2025.
