I have been told by a Giants fan that the their message board is none to happy
how the Giants just let Joey Bart get away. Probably the same fans who booed him

Re: The Other Games 2024
Joey Votto was terrific, one of the best players of his time. But is he a Hall of Famer? His numbers look like this:
17 years
2135 Hits
459 Doubles
356 HRs
1144 RBIs
.294 BA
.409 OBP
.511 SLG
.920 OPS
As much as I liked him as a player, I think he falls a bit short. I do admit that he has better numbers than some who’re already in the Hall so, if he were to one day be admitted by way of the Veterans Committee, I’d probably have no problem with that.
Re: The Other Games 2024
I just read a piece on mlb.com regarding this very subject, and it may have changed my mind. I'm older, so things like batting average, career hits, and HRs still are important to me. I realize that things like OBP, SLG, and OPS are now the more important measurements, and I understand why and actually don't disagree. In the counting stats, Votto comes up short, but in the analytics stats, he deserves to be in the Hall. As I said before, he was one of the best players of his era. I wouldn't have a sound argument against it if he's voted in.Doc wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2024 12:47 amJoey Votto was terrific, one of the best players of his time. But is he a Hall of Famer? I see it a little differently. I'm more interested in season's stats that career cumulative stats because some players add to their totals by hanging on too long. I'm more impressed by all the great seasons Hank Aaron had than by the fact that he had 755 HRs instead of 733 by playing 2 very poor seasons at ages 41-42 before retiring.Doc wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2024 9:27 amI just read a piece on mlb.com regarding this very subject, and it may have changed my mind. Votto hung on 2 years too long and it cost him what would have been a career .302 BA. Votto had nine .300+ seasons and another at .297. Six seasons with 29+ HRs. Nine seasons with .410+ OBP and another at .390. Led the NL in OBP 7 times (3 of which led MLB). Led NL in SLG in 2010. MVP in 2010. Led NL in walks 5 times (3 of which led MLB) and had 8 seasons of 91+ walks. In 8 different seasons he was in the top 10 in BA (6 of which were in the top 5). In 6 seasons he was in the top 10 in hits. He was an MVP, a GG winner and a 6 time All-Star.
I don't get concerned with whether he had as many of this or that stat as someone else in the HOF. For most of the years that he played, Votto was one of MLB's premier players and probably had as much impact on the game as many who are in the HOF.
There's no basement in the Alamo.

Votto made 260 million $$$, must be nice.

Check out the inside-the-park HR hit by Pete Crow-Armstrong last night. His speed is other-worldly. But he ran hard right out of the box and that was the reason he made it safely.
