By the end of that interview, I was convinced to renew my season tickets. You have to listen to him, "this is a 100 win team".

I'd love to use a term they use in golf all the time, "There's a new leader in the clubhouse". This guy wants to stay with the Pirates. GMBC needs to get a deal done now.

Surge, I appreciate IK-F's enthusiasm but this team may not even be an 80-win team. The three best teams, record-wise right now, will have a tough time winning 100 games. Without adding two legit power bats (one who replaces Hayes), moving Cruz off of SS, getting an on base machine to lead-off, getting the players to play smarter baseball, not to mention a new manager and coaching staff, there's little hope for this team to win more than they have. After 120+ games, they are what their record shows they are. This team would need career years from just about everyone just to compete to win the division.

I think some of these older Boomers completely missed the point of what I was saying about IKF.

"New LEADER in the clubhouse" We have a guy who is throwing out statements that are basically saying, "You're better than this".

With all the complaining about players lackadaisical play, not running stuff out, we get someone in here that has basically given notice, and no one seems to care? Isn't that the kind of old school guy everyone begs for? One who can play too? You know, when you're waxing poetically about AJ Burnett and Russell Martin?

Here's the newest addition. He bid his time, he was the new guy. Didn't want to make waves till he surveyed the landscape. He's made a tidal wave now.

I love it. I want an IKF jersey for Christmas, along with a Nick Gonzales, and a Joey Bart, and a Paul Skenes. These dudes are taking over this team.

Hayes and Cruz best take notice. They're fastly becoming expendable.

I like your comment about him being an old school player and hope that is proven out over time. He may be one of those old timey players like Dick Groat or Don Hoak (for those older than me :D ) who makes other players better. Maybe IKF told Cruz that he should have been running out of the box on his double and made it a triple for example.

Again, I appreciate IK-F’s and your enthusiasm. But he’s one of only four position players (Reynolds, Bart, and Gonzales are the others), none of whom are stars or power hitters, who are solid support players the Pirates can win with. Compare our line-up with the Dodgers, Phillies, Padres, Brewers, Braves, D’Backs, and even the Mets. We’re not competitive with them. Some nights, we have five guys in the line-up who are nearly automatic outs. The pitching, if not quite yet, looks to be really good over the next few years. But scoring runs is the other half of the game and this team needs help, and lots of it.

Starting pitching is going to be lights out the next few years.

Cook is crushing the ball at AAA. Dude looks like Giles !

Next season is going to be great after some deadweight is trimmed. You know the names.

Working on next season lineup

IKF SS
Reynolds OF
Bart C
Cook OF
Cruz 1b
Gonzales /Yourke 2b
Cruz OF

I`m trading Hayes .

Absolutely right. And it will be the same next season. :(

Actually, I can see small glimmers of hope for the near future. Guys who have floundered this year have shown they can play better than they have. Triolo proved last year he's better than he's been this season. De La Cruz has had more major league success than he has with the Pirates. Hayes has shown a much greater ability over the stretch of a few months than he has this year. However, none of those guys is destined for the All Star team, and every playoff team has two or more position players of, or near, that caliber. The Pirates, as they're comprised now, aren't going to be competitive over a full season with the league's best teams with Joe, Bae, Taylor, Grandal, Tellez, or Williams seeing the playing time they get now.

Nutting has said the team needs better players. But he said they'll have to come from the draft, international signings, the development facility in the Dominican, and through trades. Not surprisingly, he omitted free agency. This means he has to have a GM who's better than nearly every other GM in finding, signing, and developing amateur talent. Not sure when that will happen but I'd like it to be before I exit from this mortal coil.

Maybe if GMBC doesn't tell him he got a guy from free agency. Distract him by having the assistant to the traveling secretary buy BOB calzones for lunch every day.
