Jose Abreu

Post by Javy »

The Astros just released Abreau.
Would you take a flyer on him for the rest of the season? He's having a dreadful season, by any standard, but veteran hitters like him don't usually fall off a cliff like he has.

Personally, for the pro-rated league minimum, I'd take a shot. Nothing to lose other than games, which they Bucs are doing anyway with some of the line-ups they run out there.

No way. He's done. He's 37 and the decline started a year ago when his slash line went from .304/.378/.446 in 2022 to .237/.296/.383 in 2023. This year he's an automatic out, slashing .124/.167/.195. He's toast.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

We already have a bunch of Jose Abreu's.

He was sent down to the minors as their last ditch effort.

We don't need to be a last last ditch effort.

Houston signed Abreu for three years, $59 million a year and a half ago. Showing again the differences among franchises, the Astros are going to pay him more than $30 million over the next year and a half to NOT play for them. In the meantime, the Pirates would never consider paying a player $20 million per year in the first place.
