IDK if it's being brought up, knowing the brain dead media around here probably not.

This series is exceptionally important because of the way tiebreaker work now. Pirates blew a golden opportunity to insure a season series tie as well as a chance to win it.

The Pirates have to win Thursday, or they automatically lose out to the Giants in a tie.

They are already between a rock and a hard place with the Mets, who swept the first series.

Those are both teams in the mediocre gang with the Pirates.

Need to win the Skenes game.

In case anyone missed it, the Cardinals have slipped ahead of the Pirates.

This is what Nutting pays attention to the most. Spending a large sum for a player who doesn't deliver probably grates on him more than anything. Chapman's continued poor performance will solidify in his mind not to agree to signings like this one. Because of what Nutting's getting in return for his investment, he'll balk when his GM wants to pay a big contract. This organization has little chance to do what will be necessary to win.

Chapman, Tellez ( Marco Gonzales who has been lousy lately) signings, doesn't
speak well for Cherrington

I think you mean Perez (who was booted from the Rangers' rotation last year for poor performance). Gonzales--who Cherington traded for after missing most of 2023 with arm problems--is currently out with arm problems. And don't forget Taylor who was paid 4 million to drag his career .238 BA to Pittsburgh in hopes he could at least match last year's .220. Another $850,000 was flushed on Fleming. Aah, Tellez. Alas....he'd have to get on a super hot streak just to raise his BA to the .215 or .219 of the past 2 years. Gee, I wonder why the Brewers released that fat tub of goo.

If Cherington had sat on his hands all winter and did absolutely nothing, he would have had a better off season than he had by adding so much predictably dead weight to the team. It's not as if it's a surprise that the players he added aren't doing well. The past performance of each and every one of them was a giant red flag, flashing neon warning light saying, "AVOID AT ALL COSTS!" It couldn't have been more obvious if there was a large robot warning, "DANGER, BEN CHERINGTON! DANGER! DANGER!"

I've asked noted expert B. Bunny for his assessment of Cherington:
