Another screw up which wasn't mentioned was a near collision between Suwinski and Joe
in the outfield. Another example of guys playing two many positions. Suwinski has played
all three outfield positions and Joe plays infield and outfield. However, just open your damn
mouth and say "I GOT IT"

Cruz was originally credited with a double but it was changed to a single since he was only at 1B when the throw went home and he took 2B on the throw. So it turns out that he stood at the plate admiring his single.

Ifd you remember, that was the play where Rabelo being his dumbass self sent Hayes who would have been
a dead duck at home if Stallings had not dropped the ball. Hayes knowing he would have been out, put on the brakes and scampered
back to third. If Cruz had been running hard, he may have tried to get to 3rd and would have been hung up between 2nd and 3rd.
So in this case, Cruz lucked out by not running hard. Hopefully his interpreter can explain it to him

Yeah, Hayes was barely halfway home when the ball reached Stallings. If he had held onto the ball, he could have read a book waiting for Hayes to come the rest of the way. Hayes would have been out by about 40 feet. A pattern with Rabelo is that he often sends runners merely because he wants them to score regardless of the odds. Hayes really should have scored easily but he slowed to almost a stop at 2B and made sure the ball didn't get caught. So when he started running again, he had no chance to get farther than 3B. It just looked like Rabelo felt Hayes should have scored on the play (had he not slowed at 2B) and was therefore going to send him no matter what. I can recall a few other instances where Rabelo has done that. There are people who don't understand the difference between aggressiveness and stupidity and I think Rabelo is one of them. At least Hayes realized how insane it was to continue home and turned around and went back to 3B. But he would have been out if Stallings had caught the ball cleanly and threw to 3B.

I guess in the end, it all worked out. Hayes was smart to make sure the ball wasn't caught; Cruz should have been on second regardless if he had run out of the box. Rabelo apparently didn't notice or didn't care Hayes had to stop briefly. The Rockies got a huge break by how the ball bounced right to the centerfielder, and gave that break right back when Stallings dropped the ball.
