Re: Official Griping About Announcers Thread
Yesterday's preseason game devoted an entire inning to Brown and Walk discussing and laughing about Walk's shirt with them on camera for the majority of the inning. I wish I could say it was only because it was a preseason game but that's pretty much how they do every game. I guess they're in midseason form already. But obviously, this is what the broadcast producers want.

Last night I had to mute the broadcast several times when almost entire innings were devoted to Brown and Walk being on camera and talking about the cold and Walk's coat. I could watch the game in silence and use the closed captioning to see when they finally started talking about the game again. Far too often they make these announcer-driven themes the focus of the broadcast.

I guess it's their way of saying the on-field product isn't worth watching.Bobster wrote: ↑Wed Apr 09, 2025 1:22 pm Last night I had to mute the broadcast several times when almost entire innings were devoted to Brown and Walk being on camera and talking about the cold and Walk's coat. You're probably right about that. It's a decision that would have to be made by the broadcast's producers. They are likely the ones who decide to put the announcers on camera. But I think it's flawed logic. If the game stinks, I don't think viewers continue to watch just for the antics of the announcers. And it's not even limited to lousy games. Every game features frequent camera shots of the booth just so we can watch them talk to one another (as if we couldn't hear them if the players were on camera). It seems like the announcers are told they have to provide the entertainment. But if the game doesn't hold my interest, there's far better entertaining shows on other channels than watching Brown and Walk chat and laugh.3pirates3 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 09, 2025 1:24 pmI guess it's their way of saying the on-field product isn't worth watching.Bobster wrote: ↑Wed Apr 09, 2025 1:22 pm Last night I had to mute the broadcast several times when almost entire innings were devoted to Brown and Walk being on camera and talking about the cold and Walk's coat. I don't even listen to the games anymore. Reason, never any action in regard to offense. Did watch on AppleTV the game on Friday. After falling behind early, turned the game off. Nutting deserves all of the negative issues that have happened in the off season, in regards to not improving the offense, to the current, public relations problems that he has created. SO SAD!!! But, not surprising. Look what he has done to the newspapers and businesses that he ran into the ground, such as Seven Springs. He is the Donald Trump of baseball. The only hope for the Pirates is that baseball is shutdown until a base and max are implemented. That is when he will sell. If the game is ever going to change for all fans, giving each a chance, like the other major sports that have order, I would not mind seeing no MLB baseball for the year.

I agree except to say that his is not a forum for politics. When you take a shot at Trump in your discussion of the Pirates' situation it opens the door for someone to offer a counter opinion and then we find ourselves talking politics instead of Pirates. So let's keep it focused on the Pirates (as painful as that can be).German Township wrote: ↑Mon Apr 14, 2025 12:42 pm I don't even listen to the games anymore. Will not do that again. Just so annoyed by the state of a once, proud franchise.
