Another big opportunity today for the Pirates. The Marlins are facing Chris Sale today trying to avoid a sweep at the hands of the White Sox, and the Cards play the Cubs tonight which is never easy trying to earn a split in that 4 game series.

The odds are in the Pirates favor of both the Marlins and Cards both losing today. So if the Pirates win this game in LA today they will be tied with the Marlins in the standings and just a 1/2 game back of the Cards for the 2nd wildcard spot. So let's see once again if the Pirates can take advantage of this opportunity instead of pissing another one away like they have done so many times this season so far.

Marlins up 5-3 in the bottom of the 8th. So not looking good to be tied with them at the end of the day. That's going to be an absolutely huge series here at PNC Park next weekend. Good news there is Stanton just went on the DL today, and so did Adam Conley who is one of their better pitchers. So the Bucs won't have to see either of those guys next weekend when the Fish come to town.

Marlins win 5-4. The Sox got a hit with two outs with a man on second and Christian Yelich threw the runner for the Sox out at home plate. Big win for the Marlins as they will either stay 1 game up on the Bucs or 2 games if the Pirates lose today. The Mets win today also so if the Pirates don't win today they will be tied with the Mets once again in the wildcard race.

Serpico with a huge 3 run bomb with 2 outs to make it 5-0. The Pirates absolutely positively cannot lose this game today.

Looks like Stanton is now going to miss the remainder of the season now with a groin injury. That is definitely a huge huge blow to the Marlins wildcard chances losing a player the caliber of Stanton. The Cards just lost Holliday as well to a broken hand. So this is definitely the right time for the Pirates to catch fire and hopefully jump over both these teams in the standings.
