A few different posters were saying that Frazier should be playing everyday if both Marte and Harrison are going to be out.

3 for 3 tonight at the plate leading off. Reminds me of Jeff Keppinger a bit, hopeful that his glove improves or they stick him at a position and let him play.

Disappointing to see Hurdle take out Brault after 4 innings. I would have liked to see the kid get his first win.

Hurdle has been ripped all year for leaving guys in for five innings so they can get the win.

No offense, but that made me laugh. Four innings, three runs for Brault.

Third time through a lineup and he always looks like toast. And he throws so many pitches every time out. I never think he is in total control, always like he is skating on thin ice. I'd love to see him get a win, but he's got to start pitching sharper than he has.

This is what the Bucs look like when Cutch is playing up to expectations. It's just way too late for this year...

Mets lose and both the Giants and Cards win which makes it a 3 way tie for those two wildcard spots. The Bucs remain 4.5 back with 12 games left to play.

Brault started the 5th and if he had not been pulled, there might not have been a win at all. He had already given up 5 hits, 2 walks and 2 runs and had runners at 1B and 3B with no outs in a 5-2 game. He had also thrown 88 pitchers in those 4+ innings. Hughes got out of it with only 1 of those runners scoring on a DP. Hurdle probably got him out of there just in time.

Pirates have won 5 of 6.

So OF COURSE the Cards have won 4 straight (all on the road).

The Pirates have essentially been on the outside, looking in at the WC race all season long. Right now all three 2nd place teams are 80-71, nine games over .500. The Marlins are a measly 1 game over .500 and have no realistic chance. At 75-75, the Pirates are a half game behind the Marlins. You can't be a .500 team all season and expect that somehow everyone else will play down to your level to let you into the playoffs as a WC team. So even if the Cardinals were below .500, the Bucs would still be way behind the Mets and Giants and not even equal to the Marlins. Nothing to see here folks.

Another one of those half-effort plays by Polanco in right, in the first or second where the ball rolled under his glove. He doesn't seem to be too intense on defense. I don't know if that's just his personality or if he's put this season away already.
