Anyone know what is today's anniversary?
I will never forget this day, but want to really badly.

Sid Bream Day. Better to remember yesterday: Bill Mazeroski Day.

Right. I always ask my Yankee friend how was his Bill Mazeroski Day. But we both weren't alive then.

Maz is so famous for the game 7 HR that most people don't realize he also had the key hits in 2 of the other Pirate wins in that series. He hit a 2-run HR in game 1 that they won 6-4. And his 2-run double in a 3-run rally in game 5 was the key hit in that 5-2 win. That's why it was so strange when the MVP went to a member of the losing team for the only time in WS history. Bobby Richardson did out-hit everyone. But chances are good the Yankees win those 16-3, 12-0 and 10-0 games even without him. Maz was crucial to 3 of the 4 Pirate wins. One story I've heard is that the vote was taken in the 8th inning with NY ahead 7-4 and the writers assumed the Yankees were going to win the game. But Maz did receive the BBWA's Babe Ruth Award for the outstanding post season performance.

I didn't know any of that. That theory makes sense, but still not a good idea. The MVP could have been changed.

My wife turned 61 today. I missed seeing the game on tv as we went out to dinner. Listening to the game going home and I was concerned that the Bucs didn't add another run. got home in time to see the bottom of the 9th on tv. Had a temper tantrum as I knew it was the end of World Series chances for awhile (even though Al Martin was waiting in the wings).
