One of my favorite "guys" on the team. I root for him. From an impersonal buisiness/performance standpoint, though, I don't get it.

His WAR is low on fangraphs because they probably weight K rate and xFIP highly.



But he's pitched 190 innings the last three years at a 2.40 ERA.

Just anecdotally speaking, he seemed to give up a lot of inherited runners last year though--at least compared to previous where he seemed to be an automatic ground ball when he came on with runners out there.

Definitely agree, in 2015 he was almost automatic at generating ground ball DP's.



The book may be out on Hughes, lay off the low pitches and make him come up in the zone. But he still had a solid GB%, so if he could fill that role he did in 2015, he's a huge bargain.

Like I said I'm glad he'll be around for the postgame interviews alone. Hoping he'll be dominant at his one very specific job again.

Hughes did give up more inherited runners. There has to be a stat for that, right?



I assume Mercer will be signed today. He has to be the biggest arbitration case for the Pirates.

I didn't realize Cole was hitting arbitration this year. Anyone hear any numbers by the two sides? I would expect Cole to get around $4 million.



I still think he is foolish not signing long term and secure up his future. He would still be a free agent again at a young age.
