I watched a special on MLB Network last night about Mike Trout. That 2009 Draft was said to be pretty weak that year, yet 21 teams passed on Mike Trout. What a special player. We might be witnessing the best ever.

Man, that stinks taking Tony Sanchez even more knowing Trout was on the board. Such a nice kid too. Trout deserves more hype.

So what exactly did those 21 teams miss? Why was he not a consensus #1. It makes you wonder if there is some aspect of player evaluation that eludes us even in this highly technical era.

I agree about the hype, for a guy with his abilities and productions, he doesn't seem to get talked about as much as you think. He is a bit like Tim Duncan, so solid and so good that he is taken for granted. Tim won championships, though. Trout needs to get to the World Series for his legacy to grow.

Some blame it on being from Millville, NJ. Kids didn't get recognized from that area of the country. One scout stopped following him knowing he wouldn't be around when it was their turn to pick.

His father was a big baseball player too, played minor league baseball. I assumed genes are looked into too.

Five full seasons in the majors and he has either been the MVP or the runner up. That is crazy.
