Does the Pineda situation escalate the Yankee desire to pry Cole away from the Bucs?

Sure. Or any other pitcher they have their eye on. I don't think the Bucs will be holding the Yankees hostage.

I actually feel like there might be a good bit of pitching available this year. Cole, Sonny Gray, Cueto has an opt-out clause, so I can certainly see the Giants moving him, maybe even Arrieta if the Cubs struggle coming out of the break and don't think they can resign him this winter. I do think Cole would be in high demand, but I also think this offseason might be a better time to deal him.

The offseason FA list is long and talented though.

I'm not sure I agree with this. Next year's class? Yeah. Historic. But this year's? I see a lot of "meh."

Yu Darvish intrigues me. But J.D. Martinez as the best hitter? He's decent enough, but he's not even in the same sentence as Harper, Trout, or even McCutchen. Cueto and Arrieta are both having disappointing seasons. Tanaka's arm is ready to fall off any time. Pineda's just did, apparently. In short, this looks to be a very underwhelming FA class, at least from my perspective. But, you are welcome to try to convince me otherwise!
