Steve Bartman gets a ring

Any thought on this?

The Cub's owner gave Steve Bartman a World Series Ring to try to get this situation put in the past.

If I was Bartman, I would accept the ring and eventually sell it. He was torn apart by the local media and especially the fans. That 30 for 30 on ESPN (Catching Hell) about him was just awful. Everyone in that situation would have reached for the ball. Others did reach, but missed it.

I still feel bad for Bartman. He is probably the most famous baseball fan of all time for something that every fan has done. It's a shame how he was treated. I would accept every gift from the Cubs, though.

Just another reason why no, I didn't have sympathy for Cubs fans. They're terrible.

I think it was decent of the Cubs to do and I really liked the prepared statement that Bartman gave out. I thought that was top notch. I didn't like the media fawning over the Cubs for this. This was a good thing to do but it isn't like it was really a hard thing to do. It would have been good if the media would have focused on Bartman's gracious statement and the level of bullying he took as a result of that game.

I know that teams can't control their fans but I don't recall the Cubs as an organization doing much to dispel the hate. I do remember players like Mark Prior stand up for the guy after this happened. He took the blame for the loss and tried to deflect. I hope this provides some closure and that Bartman has moved past this.

Mark Prior seems like a decent type. Actually, a lot of Cubs player do. It's just the people who root for them (the vocal ones, I'm sure some are okay).

I did know about Prior, but Alou went back and forth. Alou blamed bartman for years saying he would have caught the ball. Then later (years later), he took back some statements. Did Alex Gonzales ever take blame?

Good point about the Cubs getting the praise and not Bartman. Bartman went into hiding, so sad. I couldn't imagine.

Did the Cubs ever ban those people in that 30 for 30 special who were harassing him? Some were interviewed so they are known. But a lot of clear videos of certain people harassing Bartman.

That was around the time of the "Thank you for giving us Aramis Ramirez" trolls on TV and over on the old Pirates Message board, basically cementing my opinion of them forever.

They are awful fans for sure. They came to PNC Park acting like they owned the place and starting fights. And this was way before last year. The main reason why I hate the Cubs: their fans.

The main reason I hate the Cubs is Harry Carey. I had to endure him as a kid. Everyday after school listening to the drunken dolt ramble on. The next reason is Joe Maddon. The fans suck also. The Cubs just suck all the way around. LOL

I hate Cardinal fans more than Cub fans. There is just an arrogance in Card fans that I find maddening. Although, the fact that majority of Cub fans who couldn't have named 5 cub players from 5 years ago now think they are winning 5 of the next 6 world series is causing my hatred gap to narrow. It will be unbearable here in Iowa if they make a deep run in the playoffs again. I will root for any team to take them out.

I had to put the name in google before I even remembered who Bartman was. That's how much the situation meant to me.
