The Rule 5 draft is coming up. Huntington said Tyler Eppler is available and he hopes he isn't taken. I am not sure when they have to finalize their roster.

I don't know. I thought that was a weird statement too. Now, with spots open, why expose him? Eppler's AA and AAA stats aren't great, but I thought he could make it up in 2018.

I don't remember NH saying he hoped Eppler wasn't taken. I remember him saying if Eppler makes it through the rule 5 then he is additional pitching depth. I didn't think it was weird in itself, but I do find it interesting that we left Eppler off, lost Moll on waivers, and yet have 3 slots open on the 40-man. Is NH planning on adding 3 players? A bullpen arm, 3B, and what else?

This has been a really slow trade season to get started. That flurry of trades yesterday was likely related to the tender deadline rather than any real effort to improve teams. I suppose it is the Stanton situation (and the Ohtani one) holding teams up.
