Listening to TheFAN on my way back from a shopping trip to the Burgh. They mentioned that someone who was not identified was interested in Cervelli.



Would you trade him knowing that you will not get much for him?

His best year of his career was two years ago ... hitting close to .300 with 7 dingers and 43 RBI. Since then, on the major decline and can't remain healthy. He doesn't provide much power.



I wonder what Diaz would do. Something tells me he would do better than what Frankie C has provided. The answer, yes, I would deal him. However, I don't feel confident the Bucs would reinvest the savings and go out and get others.

Agreed. It's time to fish or cut bait with Diaz. Trade McCutchen, Cole, Cervelli, Harrison at a minimum. Listen to offers on everyone else not named Bell and Taillon. And I'd even entertain offers on those guys.

It is relative. If Cole is traded, then I think Cervelli should be traded too. It will trickle down from there. If Cole is not traded, then Cervelli should be kept.



Just because you label pitchers and think Cole isn't very good doesn't mean this board or rest of baseball agrees with you. I thought you recanted your words after that article on what the Yankees might trade for him?

Industry evaluators convinced the Pirates are prepared to move Gerrit Cole, if they can find the right match. Arguably best available starting pitcher in the market.

I'd be willing to trade anyone not named Taillon or Bell. With or without Cervelli the Pirates aren't going to be competing for a championship. I'd want a return consisting of a prospect with some upside, not some cheap journeyman or reclamation project roster filler.



Blowing up this team for a haul of young prospects, and the resulting several years of having a great draft position would at least provide a change from mind-numbing institutionalized mediocrity reinforced by a self-imposed salary cap. I'd be a lot happier watching young kids struggle, develop and succeed than forever being disappointed that Bob Nutting won't monetize this team to even a league average level.

It may say something ominous about the state of the catcher market if a team is feels Cervelli and his contract are their best option. In my mind I could see him being part of a package---but if someone wants him straight up I am interested to see who it is.

Any approach that brings hope back is what I want to see. None of this treading water, wishy washy stuff anymore.
