It's complicated. It is hard to launch a four seam fastball at the very top of the zone. but if you miss by a couple of inches, you have a problem.

My takeaway from it is that you're a fool if you believe you'll be better at preventing homers with four-seamers high in the zone. You start throwing high 4-seamers with regularity and watch how fast your ERA inflates lol.
During the years compared, The pirates had two very, very high quality GB pitchers in Liriano and AJ. Perhaps the two best in the NL!.. They were not replaced with pitchers near their quality. So it makes sense that the GB rates went down and homers went up. The pitchers we're worse than who they replaced ( during the years compared)
