Davis was one of the prospects sent to the Reds in the Chapman trade is a free agent and it is rumored that the Pirates are one of the teams discussing a minor league contract with him. He has had some injuries, and his time with Cincinnati has been very underwhelming.

Davis has signed a minor league contract with the Bucs, along with an invitation to ST.

You would think one of these minor league deals would pay off. It doesn't cost much so it's worth the shot.

Has a better ring to it than Minor League Free Agent Davis

I know many of these signings are for minor league depth, but Davis’s stats even in the minor leagues were not overly impressive.

I have to wonder if Davis is at the point in his career where a move to the bullpen might work for him. His starter stats aren't really impressive, but something seems to be there as he has always been considered a good prospect.
Big kid like Hanrahan was. Can he get that fastball up in the high 90's with limited innings?
Everything I've read claims the Bucs were on him early and aggressively. It will be interesting to see how this AAA season unfolds for him.

according to Bucs Dugout article he added a split fingered fastball in 2017. Maybe that will be a difference maker for him now that he has some experience with it. Instead of Joel Hanrahan he'll be the next Bruce Suter.

He sure stymied us the two times we faced him.

In an interview today, Davis said, “They breed winning here and that’s what I want to be a part of.” What team is he watching, exactly? Are we sure he intended to sign with the Pirates?
