There is a period (.) that goes after the word "baseball."
True. Their laughingstockiosity goes well beyond this afternoon.

That right there draws the 5-yard penalty flag for "off-sides!"

I'm not allowed to be right about anything around here, am I?  ;)

I didn't think that agreeing with you would draw a flag.  ;D

That's cause for capital punishment!  ;)))

On MLBNR a few minutes ago, Eduardo Perez is pointing directly at Shelton and Cherington, saying that Craig should be sent down.  Cant happen at the MLB level.

So.ething is clearly wrong with talent [we know] and development [my opinion.]

Ben, this is what you see.  Now, what do you do?
I would go a step further and DFA him. When you embarrass the team (and that's hard to do on this team) while hitting the ball very weakly in most of the ABs not ending in a K, you have no value to the team. The Pirates have never been high on Craig even tho he's a #1 pick and even DFA'd him earlier in the year. He cleared waivers and was outrighted to AAA and only returned because of Moran's injury. Now that he has been given a chance to play everyday we see why the organization was not high on him. He has a slow, weak bat and has no future with the team so sending him back to Indy doesn't accomplish anything. I would immediately DFA his sorry butt to make a point to the rest of the roster that the "rebuild" will not include players who can't perform routine plays.

I feel more embarrassed to be a Pirates fan this morning than I ever did during the 20 years of losing.

I went to my follow up with the surgeon just a few ago. A fellow who teaches Latin at St. Joe's was there, he was wearing a Penguins hat, I was wearing my Pirates hat.

He laughed and said, "Man, we both have a lot of guts wearing these hats."

Even the most staunchest supporters and fans of the team, such as I, know this is the kind of embarrassing moment that will haunt us for decades.

It's a perfect summation of the franchise since Sid Slid.

He was saying "PFP" but using the term to generalize about plays at 1B.

Thanks. So he did say that it's a teachable moment, but without any teaching.

I don't think Craig should be sent down, let alone DFA'd,  because of this play. The embarrassment is the roster assembled by management. When you decide that the next 2-3 years don't count, this is what that looks like. Beating up on an overmatched player is just theatrics.

Wonder if he will be in the lineup tonight?

This isn't beating up on an overmatched player. This is baseball 101, I don't care how bad the roster is.

At least Anderson stuck up for him publicly, basically saying there were 8 guys standing around not saying a thing, when every single one of them should have been yelling, "just tag the bag". Physical errors, inability to hit, catch, throw, that's what you're talking about. Losing 20-1, that's what you're talking about.

Getting rid of a guy who clearly has shown not only physically, but also mentally, he's at a level he doesn't belong.

It would be best for him to be cut, so he doesn't have to face the music every time a new team and a new set of reporters come to town.

Ah, short memories. The 1918-1948 Phillies would make this Pirates team look like the Lumber Company. They've been in the National League since 1883, and they're still only ahead of expansion teams San Diego, Colorado and Miami for franchise winning percentage. Phillies fans dumping on the Pirates are blissfully unaware of their team's pathetic history.
