if he is on a short leash maybe he will manage to win games.

The leash is getting shorter. This will be 3 losses in a row

I fear there is no leash. He’s Cherington’s guy so firing him makes Cherington look bad. And Nutting likely sees Shelton as “good enough for our purposes.”
Can anyone here play this game?

You may be correct, but if they keep playing like they have, Shelton is going to go, and Cherington may go soon afterwards. This team is a mess as it now stands.

My hope is that both Shelton and Cherington are fired together. I'm sure much of what Shelton does is directed by his GM, and a new manager will face the same limitations unless the GM is also replaced. And I don't want the new manager to be selected by Cherington.

I totally agree with this. Not sure I even want Ben participating in this year's draft (even though his drafts haven't been awful).

It is time for Shelton to go, don’t wait another month to see what the record will be. Remove the third base coach as well. This team needs a culture change. Too bad Leyland is past managing age.

I was listening to a blog on DK Sports site today. They strongly believe Shelton has to go but aren't optimistic about it happening at least during the season. Like most of us on OBN, they realize Shelton has a weak roster but compounds the problem by mismanaging it. They noted that recently the lineup has been more consistent ever since Cutch spoke up and said he doesn't need so much time off. They noted that the Pirates had adopted an NBA format for resting players and took it to ridiculous lengths. It wasn't anything we haven't said here a million times. But that blog has a wide audience and the more complaints filter down to Pirates management, the better.

Another 4 game losing streak, and Shelton is still the manager. The next 6 games with the Cards and Braves will those be his last to manage ?

We got our wish guys, at least part of it. How Nutting can let Cherrington continue to be the GM and Travis Williams team President. Looks like Surg got his wish about Shelty.
Holding down the basement with a permanent lease.
