No......NH told us a preposterous scenario that you obviously bought hook, line and sinker.

This isn't politics man, we don't have to throw every issue through the spin and outrage filters. The Pirates wanted Liriano off the roster for 2017, it took two former top prospects to get it done. It certainly wasn't resource optimization, but all choices are made within a series of constraints (payroll, roster, playing time, etc).

Two functioning adults can disagree with the decision, but we have to atleast discuss the decision in its actual context.

It is all we have to go on. You are assuming otherwise.

Pretty simple to me: Toronto wanted more for Hutchison. If they wanted the two prospects, they had to take Liriano.

Why is Huntington lying about this but not about Glasnow (and Polanco) being ready to be called up?

Well, ok I do believe that there was a little spin to the NH explanation. I think Hutchison was a throw in, but I don't think you publicly say that about a player you just acquired.

I don't know about lying, but if that's all the trade was about it's some of the worst negotiating I've heard of in quite a while. I'll take it as truth when they said there are some interesting things about Hutchson, but even so he should not have been worth much more than a middling hitting prospect like Ramirez alone.

Hutchison was the only player Toronto sent back. What do you mean he was the "throw in'? Are you thinking the Pirates offered Liriano for Cash? And then kept adding prospects until Toronto said yes?

I think the Pirates were fielding offers for Liriano, I think in order to get a team to take all of his 2017 salary they had to throw in prospects. I think Hutchison was in the deal to throw some salary the other way.

I mentioned Yovani Gallardo in another thread.  I'd note that he made the same amount of money as Liriano, was just as terrible as Liriano when he wasn't injured, and has been showing signs of being washed up for a much longer time; yet got something useful in return.

Hutchison was in the deal because Ross Atkins knows he won't be a successful starting pitcher.

Was McGuire in the deal because Neal Huntington knows he won't be a successful starting catcher?
