Your question about ignorance of the fundamentals has grated on me ever since the earliest days of the 20-year losing streak. It costs no extra money to school the players in the game’s basics. They have enormous amounts of time during the spring and the season to teach, practice and emphasize them. One doesn’t have to be a star to be a sound fundamental player, which is good because they have no position players who are stars. Having a team that’s better in knowing the fundamentals can beat a team lacking in them, helping them to win more games over the course of a season.

If Nutting wants to win on the cheap, having a team full of players who know what to do should be something he demands. But he doesn’t. Because he doesn’t care if the team wins or not.

I have never cared for Hayes. Pirates haven`t won 3 in a row since May and winning streaks are how it`s done. :o

Team seems like it could turn the corner but then it never happens. Over and over again, season after season, you would think some Luck would strike upon them at some point..lol

I`m thankful for Brian Reynolds.

got hope Hayes is a second half hitter. Last year he hit 252 with 5 homers in first half and 299 with ten homers in second half.

But looking at that more closely, Hayes was injured and played in only 1 game in July last year and had a bad first week in August. So his strong "second half" consisted of 3 weeks in August and all of September. That was an outstanding final 7 weeks but prior to August 8 he was his usual light hitting, often injured self. So far in his career (this is year 5) Hayes has appeared to be a generally weak hitter with an occasional hot streak.

That Mets line-up is sweet. Should be for what they pay. Still don't see a WS ring for all that money.
Which is why Nutting will never spend any.
So true. He is looking at the highest salaried team in MLB (Mets) standing at 1 game under .500.

Bucs have exact same record, home and road as of today. We are consistent.
