It was actually Mike Williams, the Steelers WR, that I got crossed up on, TBH

Re: 2024 Off-Season Thread
Watching Hot Stove, it was interesting that a couple of teams were said to have "no money to spend" or they would have already obtained one of the bigger names out there.
Two teams they mentioned were Seattle and San Diego. Padres the really intersting one, in 2023 they went up to third in payroll, now they're projected for 7th after dropping to 15th. A sign of going for it, not getting there, now backing off? The 7th spot is skewered because it looks like practically every team but three or four of them are cutting costs.
I wonder if MLB is a financial house of cards at the moment.

Remember the former Padres owner passed away in November of 2023 so that probably had an effect.Surgnbuck wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 6:44 pm Watching Hot Stove, it was interesting that a couple of teams were said to have "no money to spend" or they would have already obtained one of the bigger names out there.

Re: 2024 Off-Season Thread
It appears we will have another day without any Pirates player acquisitions. This entire offseason seems different throughout the entire baseball industry. Several teams have not signed any free agent players yet, and there are still many players with decent pedigrees that are still on the market. We are about five weeks until pitchers and catchers report so possibly there will be some player activity over the next couple of weeks.

It was kind of like this last year IIRC. Look how long it took to get Snell signed last season.fjk090852-7 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 9:29 pm It appears we will have another day without any Pirates player acquisitions. Re: 2024 Off-Season Thread
I remember there was a time when folks were mentioning the Pirates trading for Gavin Lux.
Re: 2024 Off-Season Thread
Just wanted to note that Liover Peguero was granted another option year, and so fangraphs now shows him with 1 remaining option.

Another note in the Lux to Cincinatti trade - https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/01/ ... nment.html
