I've got to agree with dmetz on this one. I had seen his first start against the Phillies last year and it was terrible. Not only couldn't he throw a strike to save his life, he couldn't hold runners and the velocity was down. I was a little soured on him then. Fast forward to spring training, same things are happening with the exception that he is supposed to have a decent change up now. There were so many rumors swirling around trades that could include him. I was seriously hoping the Pirates would've traded him and got value before he didn't have any left. I'm afraid they held on and will extract zero value now. I just don't see what all the excitement is about. Other than maybe 2-3 innings in the Cubs game I have not been impressed whatsoever. The velocity is inconsistent, the supposed plus curveball isn't there either. I dread his starts at this point.

Dog,

You and I don't watch the same baseball game or team.  I've never pretended that we do.    We might as well be watching different sports.   We're never going to agree on much of anything.  So be it.

I'm happy we brought him north. I needed to see this mythical Glasnow for myself. Now, I can move on. ;)

One more thing and then I'll shut up about it.

Do you guys realize just how DIFFICULT it is to be a frontline starter? How rare that is? Look at how good Cole was when he first came up. just pounding the strikezone with high 90's stuff.

He put up an AWESOME 22 year old season and still people debate whether or not he's even a true ace.

Holding out hope that this 23 year old mess, Glasnow, taking the mound every 5th day is going to turn into a good starting pitcher is unfortunately just a daydream.

Have a great weekend all!

I am not saying he is pitching great. He isn't. He is on the hook for sure. if he can't control his fastball in his next few starts, he will be sent down. He can't be throwing 23 pitches an inning and stick around.

But I do see some improvement. He was awful last year. This year, he has had some very good innings. He even got out of the jams he has put himself in too. So, I see that promise and hype. But he only has a few more starts to prove he can stick around. He isn't hurting the team...yet.

I do wonder what you watch sometimes too. Its ok, I don't care. If we all agreed all the time this board would be dumb.

I think he should get a few more starts here at this point too, but I disagree strongly when you say he isn't hurting the team. No matter what the record is in those specific games he started, a starting pitching performance that only lasts like 3+ innings has repercussions well beyond just that day.

As I said previously, I'd give him 1 more start in hopes of seeing improvement that could be classified as something more than "less bad." If that start is reasonably good, then he stays. Otherwise, back to AAA for more seasoning. I just can't agree that a rare good inning here and there in what are otherwise brief, bad starts is good enough to keep sending him out there expecting more than what we see. I also don't agree that he's got nothing left to prove in AAA. I suspect that, where he's at right now, he will struggle there too. Maybe the best thing for him would be to get to where he is dominating AAA batters again (whether that's sooner or later) and then return to the Bucs confident that he is now ready.

You are right, he can destroy the bullpen. Luckily, Taillon has been following him the next day.

He has a few more starts to find his fastball command. If he doesn't he will be sent down in my opinion.

Yeah, I'd say two. I didn't want to start the season with him up, but since he is we need to give a few more chances
