At some point do they put him on the 10-day DL and bring Diaz up?

If you wait long enough, a guy with 100 AAA at bats, and no MLB experience will start looking like a good idea.  He's better than Jaso.  In theory, he's a natural OF.

Edit.  Nvm. He's a 3bman that moved to O8F.

I didn't mind Luplow getting the call. Guys make that jump all the time. Huntington said he was hoping for that spark since Luplow was hitting very well. Once the spark wasn't provided, another move was made. Cody Bellinger has less than 80 Triple A at bats. What if the Dodgers hesitated even more to bring him up? It wasn't like Bellinger was crushing HRs at the pace he is now in Triple A.

I don't see any point in trading even a low prospect for an OFer now. Why waste anyone? This team is going nowhere. They can't help that the division has let them hang around despite their propensity for losing. Remember April 9 and July 21? I mention those 2 days because they are the only 2 days of the 2017 season that found the Pirates above .500. One game over and only until the next game. It's very difficult to imagine them finishing over .500 much less passing the Brewers, Cardinals and Cubs in the standings. The damage has been done. The FO failures to adequately fill out the roster, using Watson as closer too long, handing an undeserved SP job to Glasnow and going with him too long, the bad defense, bad base running, constant lineup shuffling, obsession with playing Jaso. What player are they going to acquire now that's going to have enough of an impact to turn this team into something it hasn't been all season? The FO decided to cut their losses the 2nd week of the season when they lost Marte to go along with Kang and decided to try to get by with whatever they had internally. It was a bad strategy then but now in mid-August with a team still showing no sign of overtaking the teams ahead of them, cutting their losses makes sense. Recall Luplow now or wait 2 weeks until Sept 1. I don't think it makes much difference at this point.

We're PRE-tenders at this point, not CON-tenders. Why add an aging OF at this point to help us get the playoffs only to fall on our face when we get there? It should not be our goal to just scrape our way into the playoffs when we have little chance at getting very deep into it.

Yes it should be.  It should always have the goal to make the playoffs.  Anything can happen when you get there, but you have to get there first.

I would rather go and lose than not go at all!

I'm OK with that as long as we are not sacrificing our future for a fake chance at something. Our goal should be to build a world series team, not a forgettable group that just makes the playoffs.

Every playoff team has a chance.

A Wiki look up just on the Wild Card:

The following wild-card teams have won the World Series: the Florida Marlins, in 1997 and 2003; the Anaheim Angels, in 2002; the Boston Red Sox, in 2004; the St. Louis Cardinals, in 2011; and the San Francisco Giants, in 2014. Thus, three consecutive titles, from 2002 to 2004, were won by a wild card.

A wild-card team appeared in the World Series each year from 2002 to 2007.

So far, the 2002 World Series and the 2014 World Series have been the only times when both teams were wild cards.

The Baltimore Orioles, in 1996, were the first wild-card team to win a Division Series.

The Marlins, in 1997, were the first wild-card team to reach the World Series and the first to win the World Series. By winning again in 2003, they became the first team to win the World Series twice as a wild card. The Marlins are also the only team to win the World Series without ever winning a division title.

The Red Sox have been a wild card seven times, while the New York Yankees' total is five. The Cardinals, the Houston Astros, the Colorado Rockies, and the Pittsburgh Pirates have been a wild card three times each.

The following teams have qualified as a wild card in consecutive years: the Red Sox (1998-1999, 2003-2005, 2008-2009), the Astros (2004-2005), the New York Mets (1999-2000), the Cardinals (2011-2012), and the Pirates (2013-2015).

Only one of those teams (the 2014 Giants) had to play in a one game playoff to get into the LDS.

So, all the rest of those examples are not the same as how it currently is, with the additional one game playoff.

Going to to the playoffs would be awesome, but yeah I'm not seeing how we'd manage to do anything once we got there (allowing some leeway for randomness of short series, etc).

You add the .800 OPS outfielder now because he's as good as a healthy Polanco. Probably better   Polanco has had a poor season.  And far better than Jaso

You call up Diaz to fill for Cervelli now because hes better than Cervelli anyway or close to it.

The first move costs a PTBNL and a few million dollars.   If that's "mortgaging the future" there never was a future.

The 2nd move costs nothing. The Cubs and cards and Brewers are trying.
