Sale of the Marlins

Post by pghpaulatl »

Post-Gazette had an article when I posted this about the Pirates plan for fireworks and other "events" for this coming year. I guess I should have posted it with my comments, but hopefully you understand it now.

I read that if the Cards and Marlins get to the point of an agreement the Cardinals may get a couple day window to speak to Stanton regarding his contract. If the Cardinals end up with Stanton the Central Division will not be won by the Pirates for several years. The Cubs, Cardinals and up and coming Brewers will dominate the division for years.

That depends, to some extent, on whether he stays healthy.

Yes, that's one of the two ways the Pirates will not win the division for several years. The other way, of course, is if the Cardinals don't get Stanton. :)

The Florida Marlins only had one winning season since they had Stanton on their team. That was in 2010 when Stanton was a rookie. Why didn't they win more if that was/is the case?

Owner Jeffrey Loria's atrocious management team had a lot to do with that.

Stanton is being rumored that he would block a trade to the Red Sox or Cardinals. He doesn't want to play on those teams. Just a rumor...

If I were him I'd make a list of silly demands, like refusing to play for a team that uses a red uniform. :D

I like this. Which team would blink first on changing its colors.

Remember when the Pirates offered Pete Rose a race horse?

No team wants to pay his whole salary. That's the biggest issue as the Marlins want to cut payroll big time and Stanton makes like half of it.

It looks like Coonelly was right when he said the Marlins were never planning to pay Stanton's whole salary?

The Marlins should try to trade the other guys first. If they get a steal for them, maybe they would settle for less of a return, player wise, for Stanton?
