Seems like the Stanton to Cards rumor is taking on a little more traction. There is nothing firm, but the GM Meetings are this week so the rumor mill will be churning. If the Cards would acquire Stanton any chance for the Bucs to win the division are gone. I think at that point I would agree that it would be best to dismantle the team and start over on a rebuild.

Rumor has it that the Cardinals are really close to a trade and landing Stanton.

One of what I feel is a great injustice is that those Cardinals are considered a "small market team", if that isn't BS what is?



They're talking about getting the highest paid player in MLB and were talking about fireworks and pierogi races. :-/

Imagine how MIA feels.  Jeter was going to be this savior that rode in to take over from the terrible "cheap" owner and "spent the money" to add on and make them a great team.

Cardinals are a small market team like the Steelers or the Packers are small market teams.  Their fanbase expands way way beyond their expected fanbase area.

That term doesn't get used in the NFL because the cap gives teams equal footing. (Hey, what a concept!) But in MLB, the key word is "market." When a team's ability to market their product expands well beyond their borders, it substantially increases their revenue. And since there is no cap, MLB is all about revenue. They should call it "small revenue" rather than "small market."
