They will receive the annual revenue sharing payment this year as well as the BAM multi media payment so Manfred may want to determine the Bucs are using the money for the best interests of the major league club.
What was Boras referring to?

No chance. Manfred just allowed an underfunded group buy the Marlins probably knowing they would be stripped to the studs. He doesn't care how owners use the revenues.

Boras was referring to how the franchise has increased in value , but they have won nothing. I believe he is pleased that his client Cole is no longer with the Pirates and now the Astros.

the Pirates made two opportunistic moves to improve the team and help the team compete in 2018 and beyond.
What more could Pirate fans want?

Agreed. Manfred cares about the big money big market teams, not the other guys. We're just filler.

The Pirates have had more success in the last five years compared to many teams. What was done in the 20 years of losing to the Pirates? Was there league pressure then? If there was no pressure then, why would people think pressure would come now after making the playoffs three of the last five years?
The last time the Pirates were ranked 30th in payroll was in 2010. That was the only time in the last 20 years.
I am not defending Nutting, but I just don't see how the league can pressure him to do anything. Does Boras say this about other teams too? Or is he still mad about the Alvarez signing deadline?

The commissioner works for the owners. It's no longer his responsibility to do whats in the best interest of baseball. IIRC Fay Vincent got fired for doing just that and was replaced by one of their own, Bud Selig. Unfortunately, it's none of Manfred's business how Nutting chooses to operate his team. The owners are a club of rich guys having fun being the bosses of MLB. If some choose not to try very hard to win it makes it easier for those who do. Nutting can do whatever he wants. It's his team and none of his peers care, including the front man for his peers, Rob Manfred. If fans are hoping Manfred will put a stop to how Nutting operates, they're going to be disappointed.

Didn't they do just this to the Marlins a few years ago?

What did they do? Maybe I'm forgetting something.
