Why the hate for The Brewers?
They have never won a WS. They are a small market
They have never really been a rival to the Bucs
If the Pirates can’t win the Central I would pull for the Brewers
For me I have a hatred for the Reds stemming from the 1970’s
They kept us from the WS in 1970, 1972, 1975.
The “Big Red Machine” received all the headlines but the Pirates were equally dominating in the 70’s. Both teams won 2 WS and won 6 Division titles. That was a rivalry!
My feelings stem from the time Braun was a rookie and the years that followed. I found players like Braun, Prince Fielder, Rickie Weeks, John Axford, Jon Lucroy, Carlos Gomez, LaTroy Hawkins, Alex Gonzalez, and Jean Segura easy to dislike because they were so arrogant. I don't care about their market size, nor that they haven't won the Series (I hope they never do).
I've seen them as a bigger rival over the past 12-15 years more than I have the Reds. The Pirates/Reds rivalry of the 1970s is so far in the rear view mirror as to carry no significance anymore. That was a half century ago.
