In the modern era, the 1961 Phillies hold the longest losing
streak at 23 games.
The longest single season of all time was the Louisville Colonels
who lost 26 in a row in 1889
In the AL, the White Sox and the 1988 Orioles are tied at 21.

The 1988 Orioles fired Cal Ripken Sr as manager when they lost the first 6 games of the season. They replaced him with Frank Robinson who lost the next 15 games for an 0-21 start to the season. Ripken had taken over the team a year earlier and 1988 was supposed to be a rebuilding year. So it made no sense to fire him after 6 games in 1988. It seemed like they just wanted Robinson and looked for any excuse to fire Ripken. Things didn't get much better after the 0-21 start. They went 54-86 the rest of the way.

It's funny that they waited until the Sox finally won a game to fire him. He probably wishing they had kept on losing. At least he had a job then.
