It's the right call, but that's not a mental mistake. It was bad execution.

Nah, it was a terrible call. What good is that speed if we're afraid to use it. Another example of managing by the book but not the game.

And Mercer's bunt was definitely a TOOTBLAN regardless of the definition! He totally TOOTBLANED that! 8-)

TOOTBLAN is an acronym that stands for Thrown Out On The Bases Like A Nincompoop

TOOTBLAN is a base running error. Actually, Marte is one of the active leaders in this category.

Mercer didn't execute. It was a bad at bat. But if we count not executing a TOOTBLAN, then there were so many. McCutchen had zero hits, Frazier dropped a ball for a play at the plate, Cole and Bastardo gave up HRs.

A successful bunt puts guys on second and third with one out. It avoids the double play too. It was the right call to bunt, but the way the infield was playing I would have second guessed it. But right away, I thought bunting was the best move. A fly ball, passed ball, wild pitch, squeeze scores the tying run. A base hit takes the lead. The Braves and their bad defense would have walked the next batter or played in. Playing in increases chances to score too.
