With Polanco out, Jaso gets some starts.

I was actually ready to send down Bell to get his timing back.  Not sure now.  I hope the Pirates bring in an outfielder.  There are plenty of bad contracts to take a chance on that a team my want to dump.

No ... if Osuna is a good D first baseman ... he should go there.   See what you have in him.  Not sure Bell is a long term 1Bman here. Bell in the OF.  Keep Freese at third and Harrison at 2nd.  The season is basically over.  Do some experimenting with Osuna and Bell.

Seems reasonable to me. Osuna's spring training display was impressive. Supposedly he's the best defensive 1B in the organization. Give him some games at 1B and OF. Do the same with Bell and see what shakes out.

Exactly ... If he is the best defensive 1Bman we have and can hit (maybe not with a lot of power, but ...), why not put him at 1st?  Seems logical to me.   Osuna is the 1Bman of the future in Pittsburgh to me, not Bell.

One guy goes down and you move 6 guys out of their positions!!!   :o :o

No, only Bell is really switching positions. Of course McCutchen is going to go to CF. All the other players are already playing the other positions.

Osuna isn't going to go right in and start because he is better on defense. He needs to prove he can hit first. He actually has an opportunity as Bell is struggling.

Dog, you're moving Frazier to 2B. He has started 2 games out of his 10 starts and the team's 14 games this season. I don't see how you can say that's not a position switch. Freese is a 3Bman by nature and has started 10 of 14 games there with 1 start a 1B. I don't see how you can say that's not a position switch. Harrison has been the 2nd baseman the past 2 years and has started 8 times there and just 3 at 3B this season. I don't see how you can say that's not a position switch. Sure, each has played the other position at some time. But you're proposing an entirely knew defensive alignment while saying only Bell would actually switch positions. And by that reasoning, since Bell played some RF last year, that's not a position switch for him either.

They have all played those positions this year.  They were due to play a lot more, but they are only 15 games in.

The big switch is Bell to the outfield.  That was the rumor if McCutchen was traded anyway.  If that happens, Freese then has to play 1B.  Harrison is the best defender at 3B and 2B on the team.  Freese is the best defender at 1B on the team.

The easy thing to do is to move Frazier to RF.  I just think his best position is 2B.  Frazier has played more infield in his career than outfield.

This isn't RBI Baseball. You can't just switch guys around every day. As much as Hurdle loves positional flexibility, even he tries to put guys in the same spot. The have spent all spring and the early part of this year with roughly the same alignment. It's probably because the metrics suggest it. Marte being out isn't going to change 6 other positions.

Like I said, it's not like guys are out of position.  Frazier is playing more outfield because of injuries.  Harrison has already played some 3B.  Freese is playing mostly 3B because of Kang.

They need to best possible line up in the field.  Is that Frazier in RF?

(Jaso is making his first start in RF on Wed vs the Cardinals)
