I suppose that you would also like to see Glasnow moved to long relief or maybe even into the late innings relief and sign some over the hill starter to replace him until he learns how to pitch.

Bell has adapted to first base. I really thought he was going to be really bad there. He has not. He has held his own. I am never a fan of taking his bat out of the line up. He can go back to 1B when everyone is healthy.

His play in RF could even open the door up for Freese to play too. Is Freese better than Jaso and Osuna?

Glasnow has no relevance in this. I don't want him in long relief. I am not trying to replace Bell with a veteran player. I want to move him to a different position to make the team stronger considering the others in the line up. The line up is not changing, the defensive alignment is changing. Just like it did for Harrison, Freese, McCutchen, and Polanco.

When Freese and Frazier get back, Freese will go to third, Harrison back to second, and Frazier to the OF. Then Ngoepe can be the back up infielder and Osuna can back up in the OF or 1B. There is no need more than a few weeks out to move Bell.

Hopefully we then release Jaso and trade Hanson.

If it is only for a few games, then do it. Move Bell to RF today.

Frazier is rehabbing now.

What are you really gaining by flipping them into different positions? It's not as if there are any elite gloves in the lot.

Bell is better than Osuna and Jaso in the outfield.

Osuna and Jaso are better than Bell at 1B.

How is this not a win-win situation?

At present, Bell's improved defense at first (compared to last year) and his hitting are one of the few bright spots on the team. Frankly, I would not mess with him and I would hope that they soon stop replacing him on defense in the latter innings.

I know that the outfield is hurting. I believe the most appropriate approach is to find another outfielder who can serve in the short-term as a semi-regular starter and defensive replacement in the latter innings, and who may serve as a #4 outfielder after Marte returns. And, until that happens, and until Frazier returns, I start Osuna each and every game in the OF (no more Jaso).

This team's fortunes are not going to suddenly turn dramatically to the better because the team actually decides to carry 3 real outfielders on the roster, but another real outfielder may help to hold a lead now and then or not to give away too many outs.

Bell should stay put. NH gets an outfielder. Jaso is history when Freese and/or Frazier returns (Osuna can play 1st if Bell is not in the line-up). Someone among our growing collection of infield reserves --- Moroff, Bostick, Gift, Hanson and Frazier --- goes when the new outfielder is found.

I believe a sensible GM and Manager would not fool around with Bell.

I do agree with the most part, Maine.

Bell is a bright spot. That's also why I know he can make the switch back to 1B. They haven't found another outfielder. The current choices are bad. Bell has to be better and is already in the every day line up?

This team can improve big time if they have an outfielder who can field. Misplayed fly balls have hurt big time. Missing the cut off has cost runs. It is really bad. Bell was always an outfielder until last year.

I think a good manager and good GM would see they have an outfielder on the roster and need to see if he can fix a big time weak spot.

I also think it would show Bell confidence, since people are worried about that. "Hey Bell, the team needs you. Are you ready to step up?" Removing him in close games or when the team is winning can't be giving him much confidence.

This is just a simple move for a short period of time. I am not sure why people think it would hurt the team?

The problem is Bell is not much better in the OF than Jaso or Osuna. Let him alone and allow him to continue to get better at 1st.

But Bell is better. Osuna and Jaso (really Osuna, Jaso shouldn't start anymore) are better at 1B.

If you think it will hurt Bell's return to 1B, I understand. If not, this is what is best for the team right now.
