Pmike, you do bring up some pretty good RH hitters. The list should be longer for sure. I wonder what ESPN would do when it comes to LH hitter of all time. Only need one name on that poll. None other than the Babe!

Very tough for sure. Anyone can be picked with great argument. There isn't a true winner or loser.

I understand why and such, but lists like this remind me just how much of an advantage LHers have batting. It's amazing what a difference it makes.

I've never liked these kind of polls because there are different ways to answer.  Greatest power hitter?  Greatest RBI man?  Best in terms of batting average?  Then its relative to the era in which they played, and even the ballpark in which they played most of their games.  I think Vlad Guerrero belongs in any discussion of the greatest pure hitters, as does Clemente.

Dog, keep in mind that 1) Clemente played in a massive ballpark and 2) he never really focused on hitting lots of home runs.

Rogers Hornsby, Willie Mays, and Honus Wagner should be on the list.



Hornsby was finished by time he was 35, I think because of his vision but as a manager still gave him self some playing time for a few years.



He led league in slugging 7 times.

It hurts Clemente for not hitting HRs, that's all. Some of these guys have a higher batting average too.



The stats are crazy. How underrated is Jimmie Fox?



I also never realized how many great players were left handed as I was thinking of others who should make the list.

Frank Thomas ( the big hurt) white sox version should be on that list IMO

he was a force, one of few modern hitters to walk more than he struck out.

Frank Thomas may deserve to be on the list, but he played in a heavy hitters era.



Jimmie Foxx and Rogers Hornsby really stick out considering the era the played. Jimmie Foxx especially. Foxx played in the 20s and 30s. He had more HRs, runs, RBIs, and a far better average and OPS than Frank Thomas in almost the same amount of games. His numbers are crazy amazing!
